Whispers in the Wind

Working three paintings concurrently all with big sweeping strokes after having been stuck on one of them and listening to Nicholas Wilton talk about "trust." Sometimes when starting a new painting it feels flat and uninspired and this talk about trusting yourself and your intuition spoke to my soul! This painting was originally a "throwaway board," that is the board I use to clean paint out of my brushes. I generally work with acrylics and I love glaze!I love the way it blends colors and also creates different effects like transparency and also marbling. The glaze in this project created some great effects, a mix of transparency and marbling that I love. When I was a kid we lived in a rented upstairs flat and my parents would paint when it needed painting. I remember my mom somehow ended up mixing some paints and she created some pretty wild looking kitchen cabinets with a brown and cream colored paint. Some had swirls and others drips and marbling. Fortunately the Landlady approved of her artwork!

In “Whispers in the Wind” I invite the viewer into a quiet, intuitive world shaped by emotion and movement. Using acrylics on wood panel, I layered color and texture to reflect the complexity of memory—how it shifts, softens, and sometimes surprises us. The bold whites feel like breath or spirit passing through denser experiences, while the underlying blues, greens, and amber hues suggest the inner landscape of healing and resilience.

As I painted, a face began to emerge—unplanned, yet unmistakable. It reminded me how our subconscious reveals what words often cannot: the presence of someone remembered, or a part of ourselves re-surfacing through the layers. This piece speaks to those moments when silence holds depth, and when something unseen begins to take form.
